At the foot of Mount Wachusett in central Massachusetts is a mountain farm, marked by stonewalls and rocky hayfields, muddy lanes and rusting harrows. A family still lives here, and for ten generations, has made a living from the land. In the new barn across the way runs a different type of trade, still sited from a homestead, but with modern sensibility.
Charbrook is a design practice and plant nursery with a simple philosophy, based on this age old concept of working off the land. With the farm’s raw materials of stone, wood, and metal, and the nursery fields of familiar plants, we have our ingredients and inspiration easily at hand. Our design work reflects our understanding of the rural context, our deep respect of history, and our loyalty to our New England roots.
